FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING MY INITIAL ASSESSMENT?

This session will start with a discussion of your problem, its history and the problems that you may be having.  Your Physiotherapist will then look at the problematic area in more detail looking at the skin, muscle activity, movement and sensation.  This may require you to remove some clothing, but your therapist will ensure that you are happy and comfortable doing this first and only ask if necessary for your assessment and treatment. After the assessment we will discuss what you hope to achieve from Physiotherapy and devise a plan of your treatment.  If time, you will also have your first treatment in this session, which would usually involve exercises.

WILL I NEED TO STRIP OFF OR WEAR PARTICULAR CLOTHING?

For most conditions this will not be necessary, and you can wear your normal comfortable clothes.  For certain conditions especailly neck, shoulder, back and certain hip conditions observation of the area can greatly help in the assessment and diagnosis of a problem.  If this is the case exposing the area by stripping down to your under wear may be necessary.  Your Physiotherapist will always discuss this with you first and make sure that you are happy to be observed in this way.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Initial assessments are priced at £75 for a 60-90 minute session.  Follow-up visits are charged at £60 for a 30-60 minute session.  Travel prices are included for the first 5 miles of travel, after this an additional £1 per mile will be charged to cover petrol costs and travel time.  Additional costs could include equipment hire or purchase, but these will be optional.

HOW DO YOU TREAT DIZZINESS?

Dizziness can be caused by many different things. In most cases sudden onset dizziness is caused by small crystals in your ear being in the wrong place, this condition can be diagnosed and treated with a few simple movements.  Other causes can be more complex and require more treatment with vestibular exercises.  In very rare cases medication management and more complex scans would be needed, but in these cases reducing your symptoms may be possible whilst you wait for referrals.
